The EU Policy Lab helps decision-makers anticipate, understand and shape the impacts of emerging technologies on Europe’s future. Using strategic foresight, behavioural insights and design for policy, we promote forward‑thinking, ethical and inclusive innovation.
What we do, concretely:
- Scan and analyse disruptive technologies through horizon scanning and expert collaboration.
- Work with EU bodies to prioritise innovation topics, assess opportunities and risks, and support Europe’s strategic autonomy.
- Study how people perceive and use technologies, especially AI, with a focus on transparency, trust and fairness.
- Perform research and experiments to prevent discrimination and ensure AI supports human dignity and fundamental rights.
- Use design methods to create user‑centred, adaptive policies and promote continuous monitoring of AI systems to detect and reduce bias.
Our latest news on technology

The future of ocean observation will not be driven by a single solution, but by convergence - technological and human. It will rely on integrating diverse sensors, autonomous platforms, and AI-enabled analytics.
